Pragadeesh

Pragadeesh is the son of a fisherman.... and his dreams when he was 5 years old was to become a Doctor! He joined Gurukulam when he was 4 years old. Today - Pragadeesh is doing his 10th standard at Gurukulam. His dreams have changed over the years, but he is well on his way to becoming whatever he wants to be. And it is thanks to each and every one who supports Gurukulam, that children like Pragadeesh can dream of a future and have a chance to make it a reality. Read more about it at

Hi, I am Sanjay Shetty, a financial professional from Philadelphia, USA. I have run multiple half-marathons in the past but this year’s run was a special one as I supported a cause close to my heart.

On November 21st 2010, I successfully ran the Philadelphia Marathon (26.2 miles ~ 42.16 kilometers track), in support of underprivileged children at Gurukulam School, a Trust Children organization.

Believe it or not, a day before the race, I was planning to call it off coz of a pain in my lower back that bothered me for several weeks. Initially I thought it was just a pull and that it will go away with time, but it persisted. After a couple of attempts to run on treadmill, I realized I could barely run for a few meters without pain. So after consulting with a couple of experienced marathoners I decided against running after several months of practice.

I could barely sleep that night and wanted to keep my commitment to Trust Children and to the people who had donated to Trust Children for my support. On Nov 21st, after collecting my race packet, I decided to at least start the race. My plan was to just run and if I felt any pain then just stop. And you know what; I kept going and ultimately completed my first full-Marathon…! Guess it was the children’s blessings that got me through…!

4h: 52m: 16s was my time. My legs were sore but I was very excited and could not wait to update everybody. In any case, I scheduled my doctor’s appointment to ensure that I keep well. So once again, I appreciate everyone for their support and concern.

Do keep yourself updated on this page and the Trust Children blog for my future marathons and on how to support the Gurukulam children.
